Artist space Club Solo organises solo exhibitions by Dutch artists. Aside from new work, they also showcase key pieces spanning their careers. Each solo artist also acts as a curator for the exhibition. Furthermore, they set the peripheral programme, and decide on the content of the publication. Club Solo hosts four solo exhibitions a year. Choosing the participating artists is done through a joint decision by core members of Club Solo.
VAN ABBEMUSEUM AND M HKA
Curators from Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven and the Museum for Contemporary Art in Antwerp (M HKA) respond to each artist’s work by adding a specific contribution from their own respective collection to the exhibition. This work is shown in a separate room.
Each solo exhibition is accompanied by a publication containing exhibition photos and two articles. One of these is about the work by the solo artist, and is written by an author picked by that artist. The second one is written by curators from Van Abbemuseum and M HKA, taking turns to explain the motivation behind the museum’s decision to contribute the work that they have. The publications are bilingual (Dutch and English), and they are available starting the last day of the exhibition.
These publications can be bought at Café Solo, or ordered online at firstname.lastname@example.org. They cost € 7.50 to members, and € 10.00 to non-members. This excluding shipping costs.
Each solo exhibition is accompanied by a five-copy release of an artist’s multiple. Club Solo sells these multiples for € 250 each.
