Club Solo organizes presentations together with residents from the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten (Royal Academy of Visual Arts) in Amsterdam. In these presentations, the artists tell about their work in relation to their residency at the Rijksakademie. It is then up to the artist to approach another resident to give the next presentation. Tim Breukers asked the English artist Jay Tan (1982, Croyden) for the third presentation.
Occupied by the desire to understand everyday relations between matter, bodily experience and knowledge production, Jay employs a variety of disciplines (sculpture, performance, sound and video) to produce works in which basic mechanics and tactility perform key roles. She uses readily available objects and common materials to present form as a moment of pause, in the rolling story of human beings and their making. We are participants in complex choreographies (histories, politics) where the most measurable properties and forces of the material world produce, fold into, collide with and emerge from our laws, languages and loves.
The English tour called ‘Basic-Fit Brede Aa Chassé Chassé Chassé’ takes place on tuesday 16th of june and starts at 19.30 pm at Club Solo.
