Club Solo organizes presentations together with residents from the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten (Royal Academy of Visual Arts) in Amsterdam. In these presentations, the artists tell about their work in relation to their residency at the Rijksakademie. It is then up to the artist to approach another resident to give the next presentation.
For the first edition, Dutch artist Joost Krijnen (1983, Breda) gives a lecture about his work. In the work of Joost Krijnen, daily notes, scribblings and sketches are transformed into works of compositional airiness and simplicity. Energetic, fluent gestures alternated with arbitrary first attempts depict narratives based upon personal motives. Where seriousness is masked by humour, trivial things can transform into something monumental and the other way around.
The Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam focuses on developing talent in the fine arts. They select and facilitate top talent and offer selected artists a platform for further development of their work. Presentation of the work and connections to an international network form a part of the two-year residency program.
