Aaronvan Erp

The drawings and paintings made by Aaron van Erp (Veghel, 1978) resemble disconnected scenes from a story that will never finish. Van Erp shows the cruelty of mankind in all its variations. Perpetrators and victims – whose roles are often interchangeable – are positioned in absurdist landscapes or forbidding interiors. They perform and undergo acts of violence, although it never becomes clear why. Their bodies are unfinished, as if maimed by the paint. With his frequent references to the works of other artists, Van Erp’s paintings make up an overarching oeuvre that’s not restricted to one individual.

Aaron van Erp will be exhibiting new work at Club Solo, alongside pieces from the past ten years.

François Curlet, Chanter l'enfer (To Sing Hell)

In 2010, François Curlet visited the house of church minister András Pándy in Brussels, which had then recently been cleared for sale by the police. In this “psychological Bermuda triangle”, the clergyman-turned-serial-killer murdered six people, whose bodies he dissolved in acid. The artist returned from his excursion of horrors carrying a number of relics, from the little curtain hanging over the front door window to parts of a strange parapet that had been suspended high up: objects that still wore the veil of those dramatic events. Curlet placed them in a new reality, allowing the viewer to contemplate the inherent force of things and their ability to convey evil.
