‘Ebb and Flow’ is inspired by the I-Ching, the Book of Changes, chapter 42: Yi (Increase). Yi is about growth and completeness. As in other life cycles, life in ‘Ebb and Flow’ blossoms, then decays and arises again. Ebb and flow, darkness and light, life and death: ‘what is’ arises from ‘what is not’. The end of the world is also the beginning of something new. Tseng and Kroos use 16mm film projectors and analog generated sound waves to create their trance-inducing journey. By layering, constructing and deconstructing visual and auditory textures, they enable a transcending experience, where the viewer no longer consciously looks and listens. Just is.
