HOTEL SOLO – Seven of Seven Festival of Performance and Live Art

Once a year, Club Solo invites a foreign artist-run-space to present their own program at our building in Breda. In 2022, Myymälä2 from Helsinki, Finland, is our guest. The artists-curators will present their working methods as a fellow artist-run-space. The program ‘Seven of Seven Performance and Live Art Week’ is produced and curated by the Myymälä2 curatorial group.

Myymälä2 is a cooperative of artists, running an exhibition and event space in the centre of Helsinki since 2002. Over the years, it has strengthened its position in Helsinki as an alternative space, dedicated to visual arts, experimental music, design and street culture. Myymälä2 presents dedicated artists from different disciplines of various cultural and educational backgrounds, whose attitude toward art is experimental and unconventional.

Egle Oddo – 6 June

Egle Oddo (Italy, 1975) is an artist who works with linear and non-linear narratives. She combines photography, moving image, installation, sculpture, environment and experimental live art. In her work, industrial products are transformed into sculptures and forms of life.

John Court – 7 June

John Court (England, 1969) lives and works in Tornio, Finland. Time is an important element in his site-specific performances. Sometimes his performances last for eight hours – the length of a working day – or he allows the duration of a work to be determined by the materials he uses. Writing and drawing play an important role in his work: they are the media that connect lines, movements, space and time with each other.

Sepideh Rahaa – 8 June

Sepideh Rahaa is an Iranian multidisciplinary artist who lives and works in Helsinki. Rahaa questions the prevailing power structures and the social norms and conventions that dominate contemporary societies. She focuses on femininity, storytelling and everyday resistance to imposed conventions.

Roi Vaara – 9 June

Roi Vaara (1953) lives and works in Helsinki and Budapest. He is a pioneer of performance art in Finland. In his site- and situation-specific work, he investigates personal experiences and integrates art with life. With his performances Vaara propagates immaterial values. He confronts the audience with the prevailing materialism and consumerism.

Elvira Santamaría Torres – 10 June

Elvira Santamaria Torres (Mexico City, 1967) has been living and working in North-Ireland since 2011. She focuses on public actions, time-based performances, installations and photographic performances. She has organised and curated several events, such as Humanism in process: Female Performance Artist at Work
(Northern Ireland, 2019).

Harrie Liveart – 11 June

The Harrie Liveart duo is a long-term cooperation between visual artists artists Saija Kassinen and Meri Linna. In their work they combine video, sound, installation, sculpture and performance art. The artists live in Helsinki and Tammisaari, Finland.

Salla Valle – 12 June

Salla Valle (1990) lives and works in Helsinki. She is a visual artist and performance artist. Valle often assembles her works from minimal elements, using context, situation and her body as material. She is interested in the aesthetics and politics of everyday life and feels
attracted to the unpredictability of live actions and situations.
