side-programmepetermorrens

Peter Morrens presents a side program of film, music, poetry and performance to accompany his solo exhibition suspended. DJ Post Mortem will close the evening (possibly dancing).

WindMarcell Iványi

The film WIND is a short film by Hungarian filmmaker Marcell Iványi (1996), based on Lucien Herve’s 1951 photograph Trois femmes. In an all-encompassing movement, it depicts a brief moment between life and death that we are present to as viewers and performers. It is a silent film that speaks loudly, in a mesmerizingly-shocking way.

Gerard Herman, dichter

Gerard Herman (B) is hard to categorize. He does all sorts of things. He is a graphic artist and uses graphics as a drafty space in which he appears as illustrator, publisher, reader, singer, cyclist, filmmaker or poet. His work is radically enigmatic, seductive and painful. With a seemingly empty and open mind, he taps honey-rimmed, bitter jokes. Tonight, Gerard most likely recites poems.

The Singing Painters

The story of The Singing Painters (B) began in 1998 with Laura van (vocals), Michaël Borremans on guitar and Merlyn Paridaen on drums, in the Ghent artists’ initiative Croxhapox. Later the band consisted exclusively of visual artists in changing lineups, but today the original duo Laura van and Merlyn Paridaen is back. The brakes still release during the raw improvisations. The vocals play a heartbreaking game with angular rhythms. A powerful and provocative statement.

The Singing Painters
Laura van – lyrics, vocals
Merlyn Paridaen – drums, bells & metals
