TENTHAUS OSLO

HOTEL SOLO 4

TENTHAUS OSLO OSLO (NO)

Tenthaus Artist Collect was founded by artists Helen Eriksen, Ebba Moi and Stefan Schröder. They collaborate on socially engaged art projects focusing on the role of artists in society. They established Tenthaus Oslo project room in 2011. Their approach is characterised by an open, processoriented form of participation from an internationally orientated group of artists. The context of contemporary art practice is reexamined in a relatively broad range of activities, with exhibitions, workshops, artist’s talks and live performances.

TENTHAUS OSLO

MOMENT OF TRUST

For the fourth edition of Hotel Solo, Club Solo entered a collaboration with Tenthaus from Norway. In preparation of their Hotel Solo programme, Tenthaus invited visual artists from the vicinity of Breda to submit a work for a ‘moment of trust’: a moment when these artists meet with young people. Thirty-eight artists responded to the call and sent documentation for the work they were submitting. Unbeknownst to them, the documentation would be studied and discussed by thirty-four Kellebeek College students with an immigrant background.

A number of closed meetings between the students and the artists were held at Club Solo. Acting as curators, the students were responsible for installing the works in the project space. The exhibition was opened to the public for three days. During a roundtable, Tenthaus explained the strong social engagement of the organisation. This occasion also served to talk about ways to involve a more diverse audience in art. Moment of Trust was concluded with a festive ‘finissage’, an informal and freely accessible reception.
