SOLO 7

TON BOELHOUWER

For its seventh solo exhibition, Club Solo will show a selection of works by Ton Boelhouwer (The Hague, 1960).

Ton Boelhouwer studies the element of work in painting, by which he means intensive moments of action. These moments generate a rhythm and structure that impact the act of viewing, without being dictated by an identity or representation.

According to Boelhouwer, painting has moved beyond representation. In the art of painting as he imagines it, the maker, the creation of a work, and the role of the viewers come together in a single rhythm. As such, Boelhouwer’s most recent works do not have their viewers positioned across from them, but inside them.
